The first NordArt took place in 1999, since then it has established itself as Northern Europe’s largest annual art exhibition. The NordArt is a work of art in its own right and is designed as such each year. More than 200 international artists, selected by a jury, present a comprehensive panorama of contemporary art. Each individual work not only speaks for itself but also creates new perspectives when seen juxtaposed against the unique backdrop offered by the Carlshütte and the adjacent historical sculpture park. NordArt is accompanied by concerts, readings, film presentations and other cultural events.
Exhibition area: 22,000 square metres in the former Carlshütte foundry; 400 sqm in the ACO Wagenremise coach house; 80,000 sqm historical park and links with public places in the town of Büdelsdorf.

Light Art 1st glow

In cooperation with Light Art Biennial from Austria, Ptuj will host light objects by artists such as Manfred Kielnhofer, Christoph Luckeneder, Mounty R. P. Zentara and Alexandre Murucci. We have also invited Korean artist Jeongmoon Choi to exhibit her light drawings. Installations by Art Stays' artists (Dušan Fišer) will join and complement the visiting works of art. The Light Art Project is is a conceptual upgrade of Art Stays projects from 2005, when the festival carried the name Light Please. The aim is to awaken life in the sleepy oldest Slovenian town. Each night, Ptuj will shine under the glow of the light installations and take a peek into a brighter future. Curated by Jernej Forbici.

Shared by Austrian artist and designer Manfred Kielnhofer. The “Light Guards” project is further developed and become a ghost car touring in Basel art show during June 15 – 19 2011.

Eccentric art was also at Basel, if not as dominant a presence as the traditional buys. Ghost Car by Kielnhofer was a large white van with hooded figures driving outside the fair, and the Bleifrei (which translates to Lead Free in German) Art Collective told Art Info: “Art is like Jesus; it died and it’s coming again.”

The grim seeker after truth
Anyone wondering why these grim reaper style figures were seated on this white van - look no further than the latest installation from artist Manfred Kielnhofer. He is from Haslach an der Mühl, in the district of Rohrbach in Upper Austria, Austria, and is an artist and designer whose work usually centres around the human anatomy. His recent piece of art is the Ghost Car, which is a product of the developing ‘Light Guards’ project. This project surfaced from the theory that humankind has always been able to boast having guardians in different ways, in potential danger from only themselves. This idea intrigued the artist Kielnhofer, who approached it with his artwork, intertwining the theme of longing for security harboured by all humans. The Ghost Car portrays a sizely white van driving, seating sheet-covered figures. Perhaps this reflects individuality, exploration and recognition of current events in society, as it seems to interpret the theme by suggesting the hooded figures are looking to the drapes and car for protection as they are possibly ghosts, who are afraid of the life after death, and long for safekeeping.

Light guards provide light and warmth.
The Austrian artist Kielnhofer created a slightly different Christmas lights. His light sculptures are reminiscent of monks, nuns and / or to the Virgin Mary. The light sculptures are suitable for the lighting of building facades, balconies, parks, etc.
The light sculptures can also be used for the inner city balcony. The light guards are very visible, very effectively and ensure, in the dark and cold season for light and heat.

The environment friendly paper tube chair by Manfred Kielnhofer.

Enjoy the environment friendly paper chair that is made from your recycled newspapers. The cardboard chairs were made in 2002 and since them have been used in Artpark and for various events. The attached photo is a recent one. The paper chair has retained the same good condition since its production. The armchairs are made from used cardboard tubes. The tubes are made from recycled paper.

Möbel aus Papier

Selbst der kleine Post-it-Zettel war einmal Teil eines Baums. Doch in seiner üblichen Verwendung denken wir meist nicht an die Herkunft des Papiers. Aber saßen Sie schon einmal auf einem Stuhl komplett aus Pappe?

Wie stabil Papier sein kann, zeigen die Papp-Möbel des österreichischen Künstlers Manfred Kielnhofer. In der Galerie Artpark in Linz stehen Kielnhofers umweltfreundliche Sessel und Stühle bereits seit mehreren Jahren ohne dass man es ihnen ansehen könnte. Gefertigt aus recyceltem Zeitungspapier sind sie ebenso stabil wie herkömmliche Möbel aus Metall, Holz oder Kunststoff. Das außergewöhnliche Design aus Papprohren macht sie jedoch zu mehr als einem einfachen Sitzmöbel. Der freischaffende Künstler Manfred Kielnhofer gründete 2005 den Linzer Artpark und initiierte seither mehrere Ausstellungen. Auch viele seiner eigenen Kunstwerke sind in der Galerie Artpark zu sehen.

Es ist ein kleines soziales Herstellungsprojekt mit benachteiligten und arbeitslosen Personen in den nächsten Jahren geplant. Denn das Rohmaterial, die gebrauchten recycelten Kartonrohre sind gratis erhältlich und die Herstellung der Sessel ist sehr einfach. Ich möchte noch einige Galerien und einen Möbelhersteller gewinnen für die professionelle Vermarktung. Es soll ein Projekt werden, das auf drei Säulen steht. Kunst, Mensch und Umwelt.
Es ist mir wichtig, dass die Kartonrohrsessel im Kunsthandel und im Designhandel Fuß fassen.
Das heißt, dass die Qualität, die Dauerhaltbarkeit und das Design zeitlos gestaltet wird.
Somit wird eine Nachfrage erzeugt und es entsteht ein stabiler Preis.
Es soll ein “Menschen” Projekt auf längere Zeit werden.

Manfred Kielnhofer (* 28. Jänner 1967 in Haslach an der Mühl) ist ein österreichischer Maler, Bildhauer und Fotograf.

Leben

Kielnhofer absolvierte 1989 den Werkmeister Betriebstechnik und besuchte anschließend die Höhere Technische Bundeslehranstalt Linz, wo er 1995 maturierte. Die Beschäftigung mit Technik, Design und Kunst am Bau führte ihn zur eigenen künstlerischen Tätigkeit. Seit 2000 ist er als freischaffender Künstler in Linz an der Donau tätig. 2005 gründete er die Galerie Artpark in der Lenaupark City in Linz, ein Jahr später die Galerie Fotopark. Seit 2005 ist Kielnhofer Mitglied der VBK Verwertungsgesellschaft Bildender Künstler.

Werk

Die „timeguards“ des Linzer Künstlers Manfred Kielnhofer stehen an der Spitze einer langjährigen Entwicklung. Die ständige Auseinandersetzung mit Raumkonzepten, Skulpturen und Installationen sowie die Beschäftigung mit Mystik und Ur-Religionen führten den Künstler zu diesen seinen „Wächtern der Zeit“. 2006 entstand die erste Figur dieser Art, die an einen wandelnden, in sich gekehrten Mönch erinnert. Kielnhofer postiert seine Figuren gerne an spannenden Schauplätzen, in alten Klöstern, vor Schlössern, Hochhäusern oder in aufgelassenen Salzbergwerken. Kielnhofers „Wächter“ erscheinen und verschwinden, nie können wir vorausahnen, wo sie das nächste Mal auftauchen. So sollen wir daran erinnert werden, dass wir niemals unbeobachtet sind. Jede unserer Taten wird von den Wächtern gesehen und bewertet. Sie waren schon da, lange bevor Menschen die Erde bevölkerten…(Kunstkritik: Martina Gansterer).

2009 schafft Kielnhofer eine Serie von neuartigen Aktfotografien. Dazu fertigt er in seinem Fotostudio eigens eine Wasserwanne an, die es ihm ermöglicht, die Modelle zusammen mit ihren Spiegelungen im Wasser zu fotografieren. Ein Foto erschien im Juni 2009 in der Print-Ausgabe der Kronen Zeitung.

2006 entstand die erste Figur dieser Art, die an einen wandelnden, in sich gekehrten Mönch erinnert. Kielnhofer postiert seine Figuren gerne an spannenden Schauplätzen, in alten Klöstern, vor Schlössern und Hochhäusern, oder in aufgelassenen Salzbergwerken.

Kielnhofers „Wächter“ erscheinen und verschwinden, nie können wir vorausahnen, wo sie das nächste Mal auftauchen. So sollen wir daran erinnert werden, dass wir niemals unbeobachtet sind. Jede unserer Taten wird von den Wächtern gesehen und bewertet. Sie waren schon da, lange bevor Menschen die Erde bevölkerten…

Arrayed in a semicircle, Manfred Kielnhofer’s ghostly “time guardians” seem to have abandoned themselves to infinite sadness. What do the life-sized polyester figures represent? Are they bereaved women, meditating monks or nuns or premonitory spirits sent to warn us of impending dangers? Are they supposed to inspire awe, compassion or fear? The artist refuses to tell us why he created them and if we dare to peer inside their cloaks we discover only black emptiness.

The garments with their many folds are vaguely reminiscent of those sculpted by Rodin. Although the first ones Kielnhofer molded were gray and drab, many of the newer generation display bright colors and cheerful patterns. The artist now plans to equip some of them with interior lighting. To emphasize their timelessness he photographs them in front of both ancient castles and modern high-rises, usually at night.

Manfred Kielnhofer, 41, has been operating the gallery “Art Park” in Linz, Austria, since 2005. He is an abstract painter who used a naked female body as a “canvas” for one of his best works. Under his guidance 1,500 eager youngsters produced the largest children’s painting in the world (3,300 m²), which was displayed at many different places in Austria. Another of his gigantic masterpieces (40,000 m²) was composed of sunflowers and other herbs which had been planted in the middle of a field of grain near the city of Enns. It could be best viewed from the sky, but unfortunately the pilot Kielnhofer hired decided to fly off on vacation before most of its “pixels” had blossomed and the farmer had to harvest the creation before he returned.

Manfred Kielnhofer created a sculpture that was similar to a reverent walking monk in 2007. With that he layed the foundations for an unique global action of art. Restlessly he cared for the ongoing development of the monk sculptures; not only the“technical production” in matters of form, colors and stability, but also concerning the posture, the pose and states of emotions. Kielnhofer’s photographic documentation is often accompanied with great efforts and describes the temporal and local appeances of the Timeguards.

Austrian artist Manfred Kielnhofer’s Time Guardians are mysterious sculptures that resemble cloaked and hooded figures that are silent observers of the passage of time. The sculptures have appeared in indoor and outdoor installations, looking for all the world like a very focused procession of beings deep in contemplation. “Time guardians”

Cloaked in concrete-like or otherwise putrid variegated cloth, Manfred Kielnhofer’s “time guardians” seem to be plotting against time or maybe avidly watching time television- is that a medieval joke or what? Like conspiratory monks in a deathless desultory demeanor, they exude an ominous lack of life as if in a ghost parade freshly arisen from the depths of the Artpark crypt. They blatantly stand here, gnarled and unfazed, making time. Are we lost in a movie, “Lord of the ring”- wise or is it a gathering of the Adams family in new Taliban unglamourous style? So welcome to the new dark ages. Kielnhofer’s “time guardians” stand like silent monoliths of veiled knowledge in a sculpture garden, seemingly quarantined or time travelling, the only prop missing is the scythe. The grim reaper has come with his zombie posse- they’re decaying morosely in the open, guarding time in an esoteric Disneyland of sinister and unsavory folds. Their significance or arthistorical relevance lies in the eye of the beholder. Regardless, they are meant to evoke ancient times in their secretive hocus-pocus despondency, allegedly and all the more uncannily. Draped in mute and unholy light, they seem to be placidly heralding the big world conspiracy, admonishing and demolishing time concepts. Equivocally, Kielnhofer’s work is a tribute to life and death, entwined, dilated and lost in time. The “time guardians” are maybe hooded knights in disguise, hiding the light within the moldy creases of their robes, fighting without armor against time.

Figurative sculpture installations take on new meaning within the context of location. Art of the highest human form. Manfred Kielnhofer’s sculptures accomplish this task. The transitory nature of the work remind me of Antony Gormley’s public sculptures, especially his “Another Place” series of a 200 craggy, metal figures on the ocean beach.
But, the Austrian artist’s work conjure up a more ethereal, mystical quality. They’re shrouded in mystery calling out their ancestors and their progeny. When the viewer looks from particular angles, they become diaphanous, almost soulless — like the ring-wraiths, the Nazgul, from The Lord of the Rings or even a rougher-hewn predecessor in Prague.
Even the introductory paragraph of the Austrian artist’s site reads like the opening to an ancient future, calling on the Druids of Stonehenge and the crusaders of Everquest or the worlds of Myst:

Long before the age of man they walked our planet:

THE TIME GUARDIANS

In the ages of the ancient advanced civilizations the presence of the Guardians of Time was recognized with respect, reverence and humility. Over the millennia a new mystery was formed and only a few chosen ones, like high priests, spiritual masters and shamans were granted to study it. They were the ones that got a deeper insight in the secret of THE TIME GUARDIANS. The beings were referred to as visitors from other systems, protectors or destroyers and even gods.

Until today the true task and their continuous working in our world cannot be explained completely. An almost impenetrable veil lies over the reason and the working of their presence and the secret of their worldwide and unexpected appearance. Historians and experts in new fields of science assume that the emerging of the Time Guardians is connected to warnings and control visits, respectively corrective actions. According to ancient scriptures it is “the time travelers” that find out the GOOD – BAD status of our actions and the recent condition of our planet to correct and restore it. What actions there are that protect the collective harmony is mostly still in the field of speculation; moreover that knowledge is beyond our understanding and human perception.

To tell the exact appearance of the beings in space and time is hardly possible. And so far there is no reliable and working method to withdraw from the power and the non-worldly access of the GUARDIANS. Just like system operators they examine and watch over the individual as well as tendencies in social development and the global situation. Eyewitness accounts from various ages in history report of disappearances of people and radical changes in behavioural patterns of individuals. Like that especially people of great influence to society, like leaders of tribes or countries, triggered crucial global changes. The phenomenon was studied by the leading historians, sociologists, scientists of outer limits of knowledge and (para-)psychologists of all times but they found hardly any satisfying results. One general accepted theory is that our own motivation and the human actions themselves are the trigger for the working of the GUARDIANS. Through time they enter our world and always remain present to take record of our actions. Nobody can withdraw from their universal and objective valuations and guidance.
